I asked…and I got an answer.
I was feeling real dissatisfied with the job yesterday..and called a former employer wondering if he had any need for someone with bulk pneumatic experience. He stated that he’d wished he’d known a month ago..as he hired on someone then, and would’ve taken Me back in a heartbeat. (nice of him to say this)
He then stated that I might try another person that he knows. (name and company withheld) I made a mental note and went on with My diesel delivery to a place up north.
After I posted the “hawk” photo this morning I got a call and was informed that things are slow today, and that there would be no runs. (fine with Me) I called this contact..and we talked at length. He just had to let a “young”guy go, and is in need of someone dependable, with plastic experience, and with a clean driving record, and a passport. I raised My hand.
Assigned Tractors/local work (with the option of longer runs when you want them) Paid vacation/Riders allowed/paid Holidays/Weekends OFF>????? HUH? Can you say Toronto? Can you say…Florida? Can you say…California? Can you say….good $?
He was in Indiana on his way back..and we will meet on Sunday at His terminal.
My old boss ..the one I mention here at the beginning…..gave Me a great recommendation. I called and thanked him. He stated…in a month he was expanding HIS operation…and felt badly that he just gave Me to another company. WOW
I feel great now….
No owners manual needed on this one. Yes… I AM good. DAMMIT!

Work has sucked lately. Can’t seem to make the boss happy in anything I do. I AM making little mistakes when he’s around. I will admit that he makes Me nervous (I’ve never felt this way before) and I’m doubting My abilities. I’m thinking that it’s time to move on…and yet..I want to prove him wrong before I do.

Last time I checked in here..there was no here. Glad it’s back…
Let’s see….I’m on My 3rd week of learning (again) to load and haul fuel. VERY different from over the road as there is little time to hang out at the truck stop and sit on the computer. I AM home every night..but am finding that being home means getting there at 10 or 11pm…taking a shower…and going to bed. Then repeat.
I’m not sure how long I’ll be hauling fuel. I can say the $ is WAY better! How is everyone? What’s new?

Just a quick update:
I’m done with OTR in 3 days. My new company/boss called Me the other day stating that he was excitied to have Me working for His company. That was kinda nice.
I passed My orientation test at one of the refineries today…(aced the bitch) 40 questions on loading and emergency procedures. It didn’t hurt that I used to haul fuel 5 years ago..so some of it was old hat.
I’m in St. Louis tonite..getting ready for bed. Drive to Louiville to load tomorrow..then back to the Twin Cities for Thursday. I was looking at My arm tonite as the sun was setting in Northern Missouri. I’ve got a damn “Truckers Tan” How sick….dammit

Things have been busy up here for Me. A chance meeting at My local gas station 1 and 1/2 years ago led to on again/off again negotiations with a local fuel hauler with a small business he was building.
He kept calling Me asking IF I’d be interested in hauling fuel again.
About 3 weeks ago after he’d touched base with Me again I decided to lay it out for him. I called him and told him THIS is what I need to jump ship and work for him. (It’s nice when you have a job, and are in demand…you can play the “this is what I want” card)
* I want 2 days off a week…Wednesdays, and either Saturday or Sunday
* I want an additional 15k a year over what I make now with My current company
He agreed….I gave My 2 week notice yesterday. I’ll miss some of the OTR…but it will be nice being home at night and the extra $ is always good. Hauling fuel again? It’s a dangerous job, but you folks need to drive…right?
